These are called government lands.

• Lands owned by the Government under the Waste Land Ordinance No. 1 of 1894.
• Lands settled as owned by the Government under the Settlement Ordinance No. 21 of 1931.
• Lands acquired under the Government Land Acquisition Act No. 9 of 1950.
• Lands acquired under the Land Grants (Special Provisions) Act No. 43 of 1979.
• Lands owned by the government on a court order.
• Lands that can be alienated by the Government legally owned by the Republic of Sri Lanka.

In addition, only for the purposes of the Government Lands (Return of Possession) Act No. 07 of 1978,

• Lands owned by the Land Reforms Commission.
• Lands owned by the State Plantation Corporation.
• Lands owned by Janatha Estate Development Board.
• All other lands owned by the Board Superintendent are considered as government lands.

• Government Lands (Recovery of Possession) Act No. 07 of 1979
• Land Acquisition Act No. 09 of 1950.
• Land Settlement Ordinance No. 20 of 1931.
• Title Registration Act No. 21 of 1998.
